Essentials of Hanafi Fiqh: Purification & Prayer [8 Weeks]

The course will cover the first two essential chapters of Islamic law, according to the Hanafi madhhab or school of law: ritual purification & prayer. Classes are based on one of the schools’s well-known and relied on manuals, Maraqi as-Sa’adat of Imam Shurunbulali. The course itself will be taught over eight weeks, and caters to beginners and those with some awareness of the school’s fiqh.

Essentials of Hanbali Fiqh: Purification & Prayer [2 Days]

This course covers the essential rules and etiquettes related to ritual purification and prayer, as per the Hanbali school of law. Classes based on Ibn Balban’s acclaimed primer, Akhsar al-Mukhtasarat and al-Qadumi’s al-Ajwibat al-Jaliyyah – both are basic, but authoritative texts in the school. Students will learn about the basics of ritual purification and prayer, as part of the fiqh itenary every Muslim is obligated to know.

Taqlid & Madhhabs: Clearing the Confusion [One Day]

The issue of taqlid, which some call “blind following”, is a huge cause of confusion and division between Muslims. Some claim taqlid to be forbidden; others insist it is an obligation (Qur’an and Hadith v. Madhhabs, is how the debated is usually framed). The seminar explains the true nature of taqlid and whether or not following a madhhab (school of Islamic law) is allowed.

The Shama’il of Imam al-Tirmidhi [Eight Weeks]

The Shama’il discusses those aspects of the Prophet’s life, peace be upon him, related to his blessed virtues, character, conduct and appearance. Tirmidhi’s Shama’il is, by far, the most famous of such works. Among its benefits is that it has a profound way of cultivating a deep love and yearning for the Prophet, in the hearts of its audience.

A Concise Legacy for the Devotional Life [One Day]

The course explains Ibn Taymiyyah’s “The Concise Legacy” and outlines the core religious ingredients which make-up the daily, devotional life of a believer. Peppered with anecdotes from Ibn Taymiyyah’s own devotional life, the course intends to be both instructional and inspirational, hoping to stir in us a renewed sense of purpose through commitment to God and to the good. Course tutor: Sh. Abu Aaliyah.
